Introduction of Department
The College of Music, the Department of Korean Music, is a department that fully restores the ethnic traditions that our Koreans have historicalized for thousands and hundreds of years and creates them into the world in the 21st century.
All students basically learn Janggu rhytems and Korean dance, and perform all kinds of traditional music accompaniment such as Gagok, Youngsan Reminiscence, Folk Song, Sinawi. Based on the practice in Korean music, we offer major and minor in department, and composition and chamber music as a curriculum. The practical skills of the majors are deepening the learning year after year, such as ajak, sanjo, creative music, and improvisation music.
In addition to the ensemble, chorus, and chamber music, the original curriculum includes courses that can be found in the Korean Music Department at other universities such as Seoljanggo, Korean dance, stage performance, and Changgeuk.
Educational Goal
It aims to cultivate a great musician who reveals the future of the 21st century gyeongre with Korean music. The cultivation of large musicians is realized concretely by creative musicians who demonstrate creativity on the historical basis of Korean music, open musicians who communicate with world music, ethnic musicians who share the future of the Korean people, and volunteer musicians who contribute to the community. To this end, we learn musical intellect and sensibility as a comprehensive curriculum and work as a creative Korean musician in the future society.
